Stourbridge

The Lilywhites first played Stourbridge, who were founded in 1876 as Stourbridge Standard, in 1975.


Southern League Premier (NL 1)

8.2.1975             Cambridge City 1 - 2 Stourbridge                                                                                                                               Cambridge City team: Pat Murray, Keith Moore, Paul Heffer, Malcolm Keenan, Roger Crane, John Duncliffe, Pat Kane, Martin Murray, David Ripley, Ray Elliott and Lester Newell. After a goal less first half, the Lilywhites conceded goals in the 56th and 58th to go 2 nil down. They then managed to pull one back from Paul Heffer but could not get a second.

Ricky Miller, who had been signed from Stamford, came on to make his debut in the place of Frendo. Scorer for the Lilwyhites was Midgley in the 25th minute. It was his fifth goal in four games.

Subs used were Ben Farrell and John Dawkin. Scorer for City was Dawkin. Crowd 241    

22.3.2014             Stourbridge 3 - 2 Cambridge City                                                                                                             Cambridge City team: Barrett, Pepper, Brighton, Beasant, Chaffey, Beech, Robbie Burns, Louis Lee, Kelvin Bossman, Adam Marriott and Sam Kelly. The Lilywhites came away from Stourbridge without any points despite two very late goals by Adam Marriott. Stourbridge, who were by far the better of the two teams for most of the game, had gone three up thanks to a hat-trick by Luke Benbow before Marriott scored the first of his two goals in the 88th. His second came from the penalty spot in the fourth minute of injury time. Victory for Stourbridge saw them move above the Lilywhites into 4th place in the league. Those two goals by Adam Marriott saw him break Eddie Bailham's record of the most league goals in a season. Eddie having scored 32 goals in the 1965/66 season.

Who had played for Coventry, Wales and Scotland. He is well remember for how he flicked the ball up for Eddie Hunt to volley home a free kick.
