Bedford Town Football Club (1908-82)

The original Bedford Town Football Club, who were Southern League opponents of the Lilywhites, were founded in 1908.  They were to make their home ground, at The Eyrie in Ford End Road, Bedford until 1982 they were given notice to quit the ground by its owners. Having failed to find a new home, the Club was wound up later that year. The grounds facilties had included a main stand, that had until 1956 been located at the Mitcham Greyhound Stadium in South London. A similar stand was at the same time relocated from the Greyhound Stadium to the home ground of Orient.

Bedford Town (1989)

The current Bedford Town Football Club was formed in 1989 by a group of fans of the old club and originally played their home matches on Council pitches in Queens Park. To progress to a higher level they need to obtain a ground with better facilities, having obtained a site of a former nursey in Cardington, they moved to the New Eyrie Stadium at Cardington in 1993. The ground being opened with a friendly match against Peterborough United on August 3rd, 1993 with a crowd of 3,300 in attendance.

5.4.2010                      Cambridge City 4 - 2 Bedford Town                                                                                                                   Cambridge City team: Barrett, Bexfield, Krause, Theobald, Chaffey, Kennedy, Burke, Cambridge, Barker, Midgley and Fuller. Subs used were Nightingale for Kennedy, Elenge for Theobald and Calliste for Barker. A high scoring game saw the Lilywhites go a goal in front in the 2nd minute thanks to goal by Adie Cambridge. Having lost the lead when Bedford equalished in the 26th minute, on the edge of half time went back in front thanks to an own goal. They then increased their lead with goals by Fuller in the 53rd and Barker in the 59th. Bedford pulled one back in the 78th.

Subs used were Midgley for Chaffey and Coulson for Fuller. This was the first time the Lilywhites beat either of the Bedford Town Clubs away in the Southern League. The Lilywhites goalscorers being Fuller from the penalty spot in the 21st and Barker in the 84th minute.

22.3.2011                    Bedford Town 1 - 2 Cambridge City                                                                                                                Cambridge City team: Barrett, Nicell, Krause, Theobald, Chaffey, Kennedy, Burke, Nightingale, Hammond, Hughes and Abbs., Subs used were Midgley and Robbins. Two early goals from Krause in the 4th minutes and Abbs after 7 minute helped the Lilywhites to all the points.

26.12.2011                  Bedford Town 1 - 2 Cambridge City                                                                                                                Cambridge City team was Barrett, Islam, Death, Theobald, Chaffey, Cambridge, Dan Kelly, Prada, Hammond, Yamfam and Abbs. Sub used was Clift for Kelly. David Prada was making his debut for the Lilywhites. This Boxing Day fixture saw the Lilywhites go 2 up thanks to goals by Hammond in the 60th minute and two minutes later by Clift. Bedford pulled one back in injury time.

9.4.2012                       Cambridge City 6 - 1 Bedford Town                                                                                                                 Cambridge City team: Barrett, Bexfield, Chaffey, Theobald, Tafazolli, Cambridge, Bradbury, Prada, Hammond, Marriott and Brighton. Suns used were Clift for Brighton, Bussens for Bradbury and Nightingale for Cambridge. An outstanding second half performance from the Lilywhites saw them sweep Bedford away in the second half. 1 all at half time, after a goal in the 10th minute Bryant, the Lilywhites took complete charge after Adam Marriott scored in the 48th minute, Beech his second on 52 minutes, Hammond in the 59th minute, Marriott again in the 66th and Hammond again in the 81st.

Subs used were Josh Bryant, Robbie Nightingale and Joey Abbs. Scorers for the Lilywhites were Marriott and Nightingale.

Subs used were L Allen, Beasant and Prada. Adam Marriott scored a hat-trick for the Lilywhites, with the other goal coming from Bacon.

2.3.2014                       Cambridge City 1 - 0 Bedford Town                                                                                                 Cambridge City team: Barrett, Pepper, Brighton, Beasant, Chaffey, Beech, Prada, Lee, Bossman, Marriott and Dawkin. Subs used were Burns for Prada, Martin for Bossman and Ramm for Brighton. In windy conditions, which meant that it was hard to play flowing football, Bedford were made to pay for missing two quilt edge chances in the first half. Where as in the 2nd half, with the wind gusting wind at their backs, the Lilywhites took their chances when Adam Marriott ran clear of the Bedford defence before chipping the on rushing Bedford goalkeeper. The win lifted the Lilywhites up to third, still with at least two games in hand over their closes rivals. They were also the only one of the top seven teams in the league to win that weekend, with leaders Hemel Hempstead going down to Redditch. The match had seen back for the Lilywhites first choice goalkeeper, Zac Barrett, who had been out with a broken finger  as well as having back from suspension were James Brighton and Robbie Burns.
