Originally founded in 1876, Romford F.C. played in the old Southern League until the club folded in 1915, Re-formed as an amatur club in 1929, they played in the London, Athenian and Isthmian Leagues. In 1949 they played in the very first Amateur Cup Final and were to turn professional the following year. They then entered the Southern League. Sadly having incurred hugh debts in trying to get into the Football League, the club closed down in 1978.
The current Romford Football Club was founded in 1992.
